Lazy Day

I didn't sleep well last night, and was awoken by the bloody right-hand neighbours doing, again, some construction on their house, with chain saws and hammers beginning at 8:00 a.m., just like they did last weekend. They had friends come to help with the work and they were all shouting above the chain saw and the hammers, and their five (six?) kids were yelling in the front and back yards, and the dog barked endlessly, and I live in a neighbourhood where the houses are barely six feet apart from each other, so the racket was terrible. As a result I had a headache all day, and the barely-suppressed desire to go over there and say unforgiveable things or perform illegal acts upon the noisy bastards. Obviously I didn't, but my goodness they were maddening. Some people make me seriously misanthropic.

As a result of the headache I spent a lazy day on the sofa with Netflix; watched three passable movies and two episodes of the final season of Wallander, which I'd not seen before. I do love that show; Kenneth Branagh is perfect in the title role. I read a little as well; Kate Morton's books are so engrossing. Tomorrow I must clean stuff. I have a stack of dirty dishes in the kitchen, and so on and so forth.

My friend and her baby are still in hospital. If she's still there tomorrow I plan to go visit her. I'm worried about the baby. (My friend is only in hospital because she's the baby's food source; she's perfectly healthy.)

And so to bed. Good night.

Ugh, there is nothing worse than noise when you need a little quiet. We live on a 2 acre lot with 9 neighbours bordering our property. We never used to be able to see them because of all the trees but recently one rather annoying neighbour cut down most of the screening trees at the back of his yard so his annoying barking dogs see us in our living spaces and bark their heads off all day long. We have to get curtains now, which is a drag - I liked the illusion of living in the trees.

Oh they know us pretty well - I think they bark out of excitement rather than for territorial reasons. I feel sorry for the poor buggers, their owners leave them alone all the time.

Living away from the city is great. It can be sometimes isolating but the payoff outweighs that for me. x

Neighbors doing construction and yard work make me want to buy 20 acres out in the country!

I lived next door to the Hispanic church in Shakopee. Services started at 4:30 a.m. without fail during the week, sometimes the weekend. My bedroom window did not shut properly, which was inconvenient in the Winter. But I always wondered how they got away with it, since the noise ordinance is like nothing before 8 or 9 am.

The plastic film helped.

The church's members work early, so they open early. It would have been awesome if they could carry a tune, but no.

That apartment was interesting all on itself.

My gas bill went from $50 to $192 in a month. My parents who live in Shakopee, have a house that was larger than my apartment, and including basement had 3 floors, was $124. I called to complain and apparently after everything was said and done, I had been billed on the incorrect meter since I had moved in. That was a credit of $200+ dollars.

In the end I had to move, because the property was going through foreclosure.
