We know things about learning, about how people learn -- you won't have to start from scratch in teaching others. There's a very good book, How Learning Works: Seven Research-Based Principles for Smart Teaching that you might find useful. It's by by Susan A. Ambrose, Michael W. Bridges, and Michele DiPietro.
